Installation guide: balcony solar with storage

A plug-in system takes about two hours and ordinary tools. This guide covers the order of work and the points people get wrong. The manual in the carton is binding; read it before you start.

Before you start

  • Check the local rule. In Germany plug-in systems may feed in up to 800 VA and must be registered in the Marktstammdatenregister. Other countries differ; ask your grid operator.
  • Check the railing or wall. Panels act like a sail; the mounting must hold in a storm.
  • Check the socket. Use a fixed wall socket on its own circuit if possible, never an extension reel.
  • Lay out every part and compare with the packing list.

Order of work

  1. Mount the panelsFix the brackets first, then the panels. Keep the panels covered or face down until the cables are connected: a panel in the sun is live.
  2. Place the battery and the HubOn a level floor, out of direct sun, with 10 cm of free air around. The Power Box and the Hub are IP65 and may stand outdoors.
  3. Connect battery to HubUse the supplied battery cable. Push until the connector locks. For two or three Power Boxes, connect them in parallel as shown in the manual.
  4. Connect panels to HubMC4 plus to plus, minus to minus, one string per MPPT input. Do not exceed the input voltage on the datasheet.
  5. Connect Hub to microinverterThe Hub output goes to the PV input of the microinverter.
  6. Plug in lastOnly now plug the AC cable into the socket. The microinverter starts feeding after the grid check, usually within five minutes.
  7. Pair the appSet the feed-in limit and the charging schedule. See the app guide.

Common mistakes

SymptomUsual causeFix
Microinverter LED stays redNo grid detected: socket switched off or circuit breaker trippedCheck the socket with another device
Battery does not charge in sunshinePanels connected to the microinverter instead of the HubPanels go to the Hub; the Hub feeds the microinverter
Low output at noonPartial shade from the railing or a plantMove or tilt the panel; one shaded cell limits the whole string

String inverters from 3 kW upwards must be installed by a licensed electrician. We supply the datasheet, the single-line diagram and the commissioning checklist.
